No.1: Shanghai Museum 上海博物馆
The scope, depth and quality of its collections, and the striking architecture and use of modern technology make the Shanghai Museum one of the most famous if not the most famous in China. It covers an area of 38,000 square meters, with a scale that surpasses the old museum severalfold. The exterior of the museum utilizes the shape of an ancient bronze ding, specifically a Chen ding, with its rather archaic flavor.

Shanghai Natural History Museum is a museum dedicated to natural history. It is one of the largest museums of natural sciences in China. Unlike most of Shanghai’s museums, which are glossy and modern, this museum, like its contents, has seemingly been frozen in time, which perversely makes it a rather delightful visit. Shanghai Natural Wild-Insect Kingdom, located between the Riverside Promenade and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, is the first of its kind in China. The Navy Museum in Shanghai is located in Haibin Residence Community, the eastern part of Lujing, BaoShan District, covering an area of 11,000 square meters with its building area of 5000 meters. The museum originally was Changjiang Warship Memorial Hall, and further extended into an half-round modern building in late time. The Shanghai Museum of Navy consists of 4 exhibition halls.

No.9: Shanghai Postal Museum 上海邮政博物馆
If you are interested in postal history and precious stamps, you can have a visit to the Shanghai Postal Museum at 250 North Suzhou Road. You will get closer to the past, present and future of the city’s postal service there. With a space of 8000 square meters, there is the duplicated horse-drawn carriage used in 1909, the truck model used in 1917. All these relics reappear the postal development and changes.

We went to the navy museum Shanghai on Friday 5th of April 2013, they don’t allow foreigners in, wasted our time good mood and taxi money 🙁

The Natural History Museum is wonderful but not free. I paid a 5 RMB entrance fee which was the best value for money.

there’re lots of nice museum in Sh! I’d also include wine and spirits museum to the list. its advantage that is free of charge for sure, plus free wine tasting; though previous reservation is required which is easy to make.
