Solitary Beauty Hill

Solitary Beauty Hill

Solitary Beauty Hill ( Peak ) is situated in the ancient houde of former Prince Jingjiang, in the middle of Guilin City, Guangxi Province. It occupys an area of about 6,100 square meters. It is 66 meters high above the ground. This hill is one of three famous hills in Guilin. It consists of limestone from the ancient times. The peak is named from the famous line of a poem in Southern Dynasty (420-589) "nothing can outpace this solitary peak in beauty". When sunlit in the dawn sunshine or sunset, the hill looks to be having a purple gown and a golden belt, hence the other name 'Purple Golden Peak'.

You can climb a stone stair of 306 steps which will take you to the top of the hill. On the top of the hill, you can have a commanding view of the beautiful scene of Guilin City. On the hill, you will also see the noted Solitary Beauty Pavilion, 7 meters high, with 2 floors and supported by several red pillars.

Solitary Beauty HillThere are also some featuring caves in this beautiful site. The most renown one is the Dushu (Study) Cave at the east foot of the peak. It resembles a stone room with natural windows and beds inside. It is recorded that about 1,500 years ago, writer called Yan Tingzhi, governor of Guilin at that time, often studied here. Again at the west foot of the hill located a cave called the Taiping (Peace) Rock. it is 2.9 meters high and has an area of 140 square meters. This cave likens a spacious house with a very smooth floor and a wall of stalactites of various sizes hanging down from the ceiling. And in addition, the renowned Yueya (Crescent) Pond is located at the east foot of the peak. It gets its name due to its distinct crescent shape.
