1. Take a 3-hour flight from Hong Kong to ShanghaiYou may take the 2-and-half-hour flight to Shanghai from Hong Kong International Airport, the main airport in Hong Kong. It is locally known as Chek Lap Kok Airport (赤腊角机场)since it is located on the island of Chek Lap Kok around the Lantau Island (大屿山). There are over 10 airlines running between Hong Kong and Shanghai. It is quite easy to reserve your tickets online. You should make the flight booking well in advance.

2. Take flights from Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Shanghai
You may also first go to Shenzhen or Guangzhou where you connect flights for Shanghai. There are plentiful flights going between Shenzhen and Shanghai as well as Guangzhou and Shanghai.

Go to Shanghai from Hong Kong by rail
The main train station in Hong Kong is called Hung Hom Station (红勘火车站), formerly known as Kowloon Station. It is a station on the East Rail Line and West Rail Line in Hong Kong. You may take the train directly from Hong Kong to Shanghai or via Guangzhou and Shenzhen. 1. Hung Hom - Shanghai
There is also a direct train linking Hong Kong and Shanghai at Hung Hom. The train leaves from Hong Kong on alternate days at 3pm via Guangzhou, Hangzhou Est, arriving at Shanghai at 4.38pm the next day, costing hard/soft ($574/934).
2. Hung Hom - Shenzhen - Shanghai Train
Getting to Shenzhen from Hong Kong is quite easy. The train ride takes you only 35 minutes and cross Chinese border at Lo Wu. From Shenzhen, you can take the local train or bus to Guangzhou and or other destintions. From Shenzhen, after Immigration Checkpoint, just take East Rail Line MTR to Hong Kong City from Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau. It would take 35 mins ( Lo Wu ) & 41 mins ( Lok Ma Chau ) to reach Kowloon Tong & cost only HKD33 per way.
Arriving in Shenzhen, then go to Shenzhen North Railway Station. Then take 12-hour D train from Shenzhen North and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.
3 .Hung Hom - Guangzhou - Shanghai Train
If you want to go to Gangzhou, you may take the Kowloon-Guangzhou express trains at Hung Hom covering 182km and taking you less than 2 hours. The trains running between Hung Hom and Guangzhou from 7.30am to 7.15pm and 12 times a day.
Arriving at Guangzhou, then go to Guangzhou Railway Station. There are 4 daily overnight trains going from Guangzhou to Shanghai, taking about 20 hours.
