| The latest statistics published by the Hainan Provincial Bureau of Statistics indicates that the room occupancy of hotels around the province has been higher than last year.
The data shows that from January through August 2008, the hotels in Hainan that the statistics departments surveyed for the overall statistics received 10,054,600 overseas and domestic tourists. This is the first time that the number of tourists has exceeded 10 million, representing a year-on-year growth rate of 11.2%. The average occupancy rate of these hotels reached 58.37%, 5.7 percentage points higher than last year. In the first eight months of this year, Hainan hosted 13,166,300 tourists who stayed in the province for at least one night, an increase of 10% from the same period of 2007.
