Beijing Harbin Train Timetable
Tonight I begin my third trip to Harbin after three years. This time I choose the overnight train - Train Z 15 from Beijing to Harbin. "Z Train" refers to "Thorough Express Train" in English. Z Train is the most popular and important in China. It is a thorough train without any stops on routes before getting to the destination. This kind of train usually runs between big cities ( capital cities of provinces ). Most of the Z Trains start in the evening and reach the destination in the next morning and overnight on the train.
All the trains from Beijing to Harbin leaves from Beijing Railway Station. There are four railway stations in Beijing, so before you start start your train trip, you's bettter make sure the exact train station by double checking your train tickets or asking the advice from your ticketing office.

There are 3-4 entrances, which can become chaotic with a great numbers of travellers forcing their way through the doors and past the X-ray
machines. Take great care with your bags to make sure that an opportunist don't take them and disappear into the crowds!
Inside the waiting hall of Beijing Railway Station
After going through luggage security check, you are inside the big waiting hall. No announcements are made in English, but the train number
appears on an electronic noticeboard hanging in the middle of the hall, about 30 minutes before departure time, with the waiting room number and platform number shown below it. Check out the number of your waiting room where you are supposed to wait till having your train tiket collected and checked before you walk to your platform for departure.

My waiting room is upstairs, up the main escalators I take and walk into the waiting room.
The waiting room is packed with passengers.
As usual, the waiting room is densely full of waiting passengers.
The Z Train in and out
The train has 18 cars and I'on the last car. So I have to walk quite a while before I reach my car. Inside the car, you feel it is like a fairly luxury hotel on iron wheels.

There are several fold down stools that are affixed to the wall of the hallway.

The full capacity of the train is 18 sleeping cars , each of which contains 10 double cabins. Each cabin has four beds - upper two and lower two with soft and comfortable quilts and pillows. You can put your suit on the hanger above your bed. Under the table by the window there is one thermos and trash bin. You can put your checked luggage under the beds or on the luggage rack above the cabin door.
Each cabin has the following control buttons:
*Cabin light
*Cabin temperature control
*A private reading lamp control
*TV channel control
At the both ends of the car
Each car has a toilet and wash room at one end and a hot water tank and conductor room at the opposite end. For heavy smokers, you will be happy to find a smoking area in the connecting area between the two cars.
My train arrives at Harbin on time.
My train gets to Harbin Train Station on time. I follow the crow to the ticket collecting gate to have my ticket checked again. Outside the exit, you will see lots of people waiting for the disembarking passengers. The taxi waiting area is across the exit gate.
Harbin Railway Station
The station is a modern building with a big square up front. Facing the train station, on the right side is the ticketing office selling the tickets for the train starting from harbin or on the routes 24 hours per day; the exit gate on the right side. The entry gates are in the middle.
