Beijing Ditan Park
The Ditan Park is located in the northern part of central Beijing and just outside of Beijing’s second ring road. It was built in 1530 during Ming Dynasty as a place where emperors of both the Ming and subsequent Qing dynasties could perform sacrifices to the gods for gods for good harvests, auspicious weather and a stable nation.
The altar in Ditan Park is square, which represents Earth. Nowadays, Ditan Park is a popular place offering morning exercise, a children’s play arcade, water calligraphy, food and other attractions. Since 1980s, traditional temple fairs have been held regularly during the Chinese lunar new year.Apart from the altar, Ditan Park is a quiet place for a stroll among the Gingko Biloba trees, especially in autumn.
