Qi Baishi’s Former Home
Qi Baishi’s Former Home is located at 13 Kuache Hutong (Getting on a Cart Lane) inside Picai Hutong (Introducing Talent lane) in Xicheng District. Qi Baishe moved here in 1926 and spent the rest time of his life. Today, it is the home of his descendants and is on Beijing’s list of protected sites.
Qi Baishi (1864-1957) was originally called Qi Chunzhi and was a carpenter in his early years. At the age of 27, he started to learn how to paint and write poems. In 1956, the World Peace Council awarded him its international Peace Award. In 1963, he was included on a list of “World Cultural Celebrities”.
