CCTV Headquarters Building
>CCTV Headquarters Building (中央电视台新址) is situated in the middle 3rd East Ring, the center of CBD (Central Business District). It is a skyscraper with the overall area of 550,000 square meters, which mainly consists of the Main Building, the TV Cultural Center and auxiliary comprehensive facilities.
The construction started on September 22, 2004 and the building's facade was finished in Jun 2008. It was designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren of OMA, and Arup offered the complex engineering design.
The Main Building, with a total floor space of about 380,000 square meters, is not a traditional tower, but a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections. The whole building is divided into five sections: the administration section, the comprehensive business section, the news production and broadcasting section, the broadcasting section and the program production section.
As a graceful and sturdy sculpture-style edifice, the planned new CCTV building can not only represent the new image of Beijing, but also express, in the language of architecture, the importance and the cultural nature of the TV industry.
