Tour Description
Pick up from your hotel in Beijing around 9:00am and drive to the Ditan Park ( The Temple of Earth ) ( 1 hour ). The Temple of Earth once served as the place where the emperors in Ming and Qing Dynasties offered sacrifices to the God of Earth. In 1957, the temple was turned into a public park names as "Temple of Earth Park"– Ditan Park in Chinese. It is a good place to see the fall foliage when the leaves are turning. The trees in the park include Jingko trees, Maple trees and more. The leaves are colouring before they fall off the trees.
Then walk to Confucian Temple and Guozijian Museum ( 1 hour ). The two adjoining sites – Confucian Temple and Guozijian (The Imperial College) have coalesced into one museum renamed "Confucian Temple and Guozijian Museum". Confucian Temple in Beijing is the place where people pay respect to Confucius, which has started since the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Guozijian was once the national central institute of learning in Chinese dynasties in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was the highest institute of learning in China's traditional educational system. While immersed in Chinese culture and traditional etiquette as well as Beijing History, you also have an opportunity to leaf peep.
Then drive to Shichahai Area for hutong tour ( 2 hour ). In a private and traditional Siheyuan (courtyard), you are arranged to have a home-style lunch.
After lunch, ascend the 67-meter high and two-story Drum Tower dating from 1420, bringing you back to the old Beijing by seeing the big drum tower and having bird's eye view of the surrounding communities of hutongs and siheyuan - existing traditional courtyards in Beijing.
Then walk south to Dianmenwai Dajie ( north of Drum Tower), turning onto Yandai Xiejie (Tobacco Pipe Lean Street ), a quaint 800-year-old hutong located directly north of Yinding Bridge between Qianhai Lake and Houhai Lake, used to be well-known for sellers of long-stemmed pipes, hence the name. Standing on the Silver Ingot Bridge ( Yinding Bridge ) , a narrow channel joining Qianhai Lake and the Houhai Lake, the hub of Shichai area with surrounding quiet hutongs.
Finally, you will take a 30-minute pedicab drive from the Yinding Qiao through the zigzag and narrow alleys or hutongs. Two people share one rickshaw. You are not supposed to tip the pedicab driver since the tour cost includes the tips. At the end of the half hour rickshaw, your will be transferred back to your hotel around 4:00pm.
