Badachu in the Western Hills
On the west outskirts of Beijing, the Western Hills stretch from north to south. Among the many scenic areas here is the one known as Badachu (eight great sites), referring to eight temples.
These temples are located among Mt. Cuiwei, Mt. Pingpo and Mt. Lushi, and the whole area abounds in luxuriant trees and fragrant flowers, springs and exotic rocks.
The eight great sites are Chang’an Temple, Lingguang Temple, Sanshan Nunnery, Dabei Temple, Longwang Hall, Xiangjie Temple, Baozhu Cave and Zhenguo Temple.
They were built from the 7th century to the 17th century. The layouts of the various temples differ from one another, depending on the lie of the mountain, and each has its own attractions, whether pagodas, ornamentation or scenery. They are linked by roads or bridges.
