Dayansheng Monastery is located within Changping District in the northwest suburb of Beijing and at the southern foot of Yishan Mountain.
For centuries after its completion, the monastery attracted numerous worshippers coming to burn incense and enjoyed equal reputation with Jinshan Monastery in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, hence the saying: “gold mountain temples in the south and silver mountain in the north.”
There are seven extant pagodas in the “Forest of Pagoda,” five of which were built during the Jin Dynasty in the 12th century, all are dense-eaves brick pagodas. Two are Yuan Dynasty pagodas built in the 13th and 14th century.
