Dongyue Temple
Located on the northern side of Chaoyangmenwai Avenue in Chaoyang District, this temple is dedicated to the God of Mount Taishan in Shandong Province.
It was the first full-scale temple of the Orthodox Oneness, one of the two main sects of Taoism, in north China. It covers 60,000 sq m, and boasts over 600 halls. The exiting buildings were rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty, and the pattern of buildings along the axis still retains the influence of the Yuan Dynasty architecture.
The temple complex is divided into the central, eastern and western routes. The central one embraces three-room Jimen Gate, Daiyue Hall and Yude Hall; the eastern one contains Empress Hall and Fumo God Hall; and the western one embraces Dongyue Hall, Yuhuang hall and B uddha of Medicine Hall. The temple houses 30 stones carved during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
