Juesheng Temple
Juesheng Temple, commonly known as Big Bell Temple, is situated on western section of North 3rd Ring Road. It was first built in 1733, when the place was far away from the city and secluded.
The layout of the temple is strictly symmetrical. Arranged from south to north are the screen wall , the entrance gate, Tianwang Hall, Mahavira Hall, Avalokitesvara Hall, Sutra Hall and Big Bell Tower. The abbot’s quarters are located on the east side of the temple.
The Big Bell was moved here from Wanshou Temple in 1743, during the reign of Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dyansty.
The bell was cast in the years under the Yongle Reign of Emperor Chengzu. It bears over 100 kinds of Chinese and Sanskirt incantations and inscriptions, running to as many as 230,000 words inside and outside.
In 1985, a bell museum was opened in the temple.
