Tianning Temple
The predecessor of Tianning Temple was Guanglin Temple, built during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty. The temple was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, and it bore the names of Hongye Tmeple, Tianwang Temple and Dawan’anchan Temple until it got its name in 1435.
Among the existing structures of Tianning Temple, the pagoda behind it is the most magnificent. Rising 57.8m, it is a solid octagonal brick pagoda of 13 stories built during the Liao Dynasty in the 12th century.
Tianning Temple is located outside Guang’an Gate in the southwest of the urban area of Beijing.
