Tourist Attraction Description
Ming Dynasty Wall Relics Park - It is the longest section of the city wall remains in Beijing. The Ming City Wall was first constructed in 1419, or the 17th year of Emperor Yongle's reign in the Ming Dynasty. It used to be 40 kilometers long. Now the remaining wall relic is about 1.5 kilometers long. In 1965 most of the city in 1965 was removed to give way to 2nd Ring Road and the loop line subway of Beijing. The Outer City's Southern Moat - Yuan's Dadu first built an extensive moat system in and around the city as a city fortification. In 1950's, Beijing's moat system was still measured at over 4000 kilometres. Today, only parts of the inner city's northern moat system, the outer city's southern moat system, the imperial city's moat system and the forbidden city's moat system still remain!
Yongdingmen Tower - Originally constructed in 1553, it was torn down in the 1950s to make way for the new roads in Beijing. In 2005, the Yongdingmen was rebuilt at the original site of the old city gate. Almost half a century after its collapse, the gate finally stands up to its reputation and importance as the towering southern structure overlooking the southern part of Beijing.
Temple of Heaven - It used as a complex of sacrificial buildings for the Ming and Qing emperors, and is the largest one in Beijing among several royal altars to Heaven, Earth, the Sun, the Moon and other deities or symbolic forces of Nature. Originally constructed in the eighteenth year of Ming Yong LE(1420). It was rebuilt and reconstructed during the period of Emperor Jiajing In Ming Dynasty and Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dyansty. Located in south Beijing.
Dashilan and Qianmen Street - it is the symbol of south Beijing. Different from the Imperial Palaces and gardens of the north, the south has always been the poorer side of the city and, away from the modern north of Beijing, remains comparatively undeveloped. Qianmen is still a busy part of the city, where shops merge with hutongs, and a good place for a walk.
