The Yellow River is the second longest river in China with an estimated length of 5,464 kilometers, just after Yangtze River. The Yellow River originates from the Qinhai-Tibet Plateau, passing nine provinces and emptying into the Bohai Sea at Dongying in the northeast of Shandong Province. It is one of the important craddles of China’s civilization.
The Yellow River is such named due to the large amount of the silt it carries from the Loess Plateau. The heavy load of silt makes new land a the Yellow River Delta. In 1993,the Yellow River Delta National Natural Reserve was established to protect both the delta wetland and the precious birds at the Yellow River Wetland.
The local Dongying government has invested huge amount of money for developing the Yellow River Delta Tourism. At the time of my writing, two tourist items of the delta tourism are comparatively well organized and have been open to the public – Visiting Yellow River Wetland park and Crusing on the Yellow River Estuary.
After you visit Yellow River Delta Wetland Park, you head to the Yellow River Estuary Harbour and board a small-sized ship cruising at the mouth of the Yellow River, where its emptying into the Bohai Sea.
The 10km boat ride takes 40 minutes from the port to the place where the rivers meets the sea, creating a spectacular view of “Yellow” and “Blue” blending.
The Yellow River Cruise Boat is waiting for us at the Yellow River Mouth Wharf.
