Zhenzhu Lake literally means “Pearl Lake”. The lake is named after the pearls contained inside the freshwater mussels that used to live in the lake though there are no more freshwater mussels found here. The lake is actually a typical gorge river, about 10 kilomters long, a part of the Yongding River.
Zhenzhu River is locally referred as “Little Three Gorges” and “Little Li River in Guilin” with the characteristics of being a famous water and landscape – grandiur as Mt, Taishan; Steep as Mt. Huashan; serene as Mt.Yantang. The largest Asian railway arch bridge spans the Zhenzhu Lake. Blue sky, trees, white clouds and eminent peaks are mirroring in the lake, making the pearl lake like a shining pearl enchased Taihang Mountain.
People come here to enjoy being close to the natural world, enjoy the local village food, engaged in various activities like boating, camping and hiking around the mountains. The north of the Pearl Lake is Xiangyang Village. Xiangyangkou Village has stunning views. Standing on the hillslope, the village is surrounded by the lake in three sides. The local villagers plant the local fruit trees like apricots and date trees, take care of the boating service in the lake and offering the accommodation and dining in their homes.
On the afternoon of March 14, 2011, after visiting Yanhecheng Village, we drove along the county-level highway to the Zhenzhu Lake. Zhenzhu Lake is located just about 6km northeast of Yanhecheng Village. Now it is the NO.01 Asian arch railway bridge crossing over the Pearl Lake.
The Xiangyangkou Village is just located on the north of the Pearl Lake. It is the entrance to the Xuangyangkou Village.
A bridge is built to connect the main road to the village. Under the bridge is the famous Pearl lake.
The pearl lake, the village and the mountain unfolds a beautiful picture of a primitive simplicity.
