Plan your Shanghai tour? If you arrive into Shanghai or depart from Shanghai by flight, you ought to check the airport code on your boarding pass to make sure which airport you are going to use in Shanghai: PVG for Shanghai Pudong International Airport and SHA for Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.
This article is a quick guide about how to use public transport either going from Shanghai Pudong Airport to the city or from the city to the airport. If you’ve used the piece and finds necessary updates, please leave a message or feedback. Thanks!
T1 and T2 at Shanghai Pudong Airport
First , check your boarding pass or air-ticket to know which terminal you are going to use. Shanghai Pudong International Airport has two terminals – T1 and T2. T2 and T1 parallel from south to north and are connected by 700-meter long corridor.
Basically there are more scheduled flights ( international or domestic ) at Terminal 2 than Terminal 1. But you still need to double check the right terminal you are going to use. Both T2 and T1 are used for domestic and international arrivals and departures. Different air companies use different terminals.
Third Floor for Departure (T1 & T2)
The departure halls ( both T1 & T2) where you fly out from Shanghai are on the third floor.
Second Floor for Arrivals (T1 & T2)
The arrival halls where you meet and greet passengers are on the second floor both for T2 and T1.
Both Maglev and Metro on the Second Floor
Both Maglev and Metro are on the second floor in the mid-area of the 700-meter long corridor connecting T1 and T2. So if you are going to take Maglev, you should go to the middle part of the long corridor connecting the two terminals. If you arrive at Shanghai Pudong Airport by Maglev, you find yourself on the second floor between the long corridor linking the two terminals.
The Metro Line 2 is perched on the middle of the long corridor linking the two terminals. Metro Line 2 connects Shanghai Pudong International Airport with the downtown and other parts of Shanghai. So you can easily take the metro from the Pudong airport to the city or from the city to the airport.
Taking Subway Line 2 from Pudong Airport to Hongqiao Airport Shanghai takes one and half hours at the ticket price of 15 Yuan.
Remark: If you are going to take metro line 2 from Pudong airport to the downtown or vice versa, you have to get off at the station of Guanglan Road (广兰路) and interchange for Pudong airport or downtown direction.
First Subway Train leaves from Pudong Airport at 06:00am; First train arrives at Pudong airport at 06:35am
Last Subway Train leaves from Pudong Airport at 22:00; last trains arrives at Pudong Airport at 22:35
If you prefer to take Shanghai Maglev from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, your final stop is Longyang Road (龙阳路), from where you are able to interchange for Metro Line 2.
Ground Floor for Buses & Taxis
The ground floor is for public transportation like taxi, public bus, and airport shuttle bus and long-distance buses going to the nearby cities like Hangzhou, Huzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou and more.
If you take taxi from Pudong airport to the city centre or vice versa ( about 45km), basically you’d pay 150 yuan (day) and 200 yuan ( night).
Shanghai Pudong Airport Shuttle Bus Lines
Shanghai Pudong International Airport also operates several airport shuttle bus lines. Taking the shuttle bus from Pudong Airport to Hongqiao Airport takes you one and half hours.

My sister and I (both older ladies) are arriving into Pudong Airport and need to get to Salvo Hotel. Can you advise the best way and cost. Thanks
Hi,
I would like to know if I take Maglev Train from PuDong Airport and get off at Longyang Station will take how long time ? And then take a taxi to my hotel at 联洋宜必思Hotel at 芳甸路300号(近丁香路) will take how long time ?
May I know the location and website for Shanghai Cycle Show will launch on 26 April 2012 until 29 April 2012. And how to get there from my hotel ? Will take how long time ?
Thanks a lot.
1. The Maglev trip takes 7 minutes and 20 seconds to finish the distance of 30 km
2. Shanghai is roughly divided into two parts – Puxi (west of Huangpu River) and Pudong (east of Huangpu River). since both your hotel and Pudong airport in the Pudong area, so it won’t take long to take a taxi from Longyang Station to your hotel (about half hour)
3. Shanghai Cycle Show will be held at Shanghai New International Exhibition Center, not far from your hotel. Check its official website: http://www.sniec.net/

What’s the convenient transportation method from Pudong airport, Shanghai to Bund area (Manhattan Bund Business Hotel)?
You may use a taxi for Subway Line 2 ( get off at Nanjing East Road Stop).
I traveling to the city of Kunshan staying at the Swissotel. I will be flying into Pudong airport.
What is your suggested method of travel the hotel in Kunshan from Pudong.
Thank you
There are tons of bullet trains to Kunshan either from Shanghai Railway Station or Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. So when you arrive at Pudong airport, you take Subway No.2 directly from Pudong airport to Shanghai Railway Station or Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and buy the ticket on the spot for Kunshan. Have a nice trip!
Can you tell me what train or bus to take to go from Shanghai Pu Dong Airport to Hongqiao Railway Station in order to take the high speed CRH train from Shanghai to Hangzhou ?
Also can you tell me what train or bus to take to get from Shanghai Pu Dong International Airport to Shanghai Railway Station ?
Thank you very much in advance.
It is very easy!!
1) Pudong airport – Hongqiao Railway Station:
Just take subway line 2 directly from Pudong airport to Hongqiao Railway Station.
2) Pudong airport to Shanghai Railway Station
Also first take subway line 2 directly from Pudong airport and interchange at the stop of People’s Square (人民广场), for Subway Line 1 and get off at the stop of Shanghai Railway Station.
Have a smooth transer!
We have booked at Shanghai Yichen Hotel, No 4008 Ren Min Tong Rd san Jia Gang Pu Dong, District Pudong. How do we get there from the Pudong Int airport?
Secondly what transport facilities are available to get to the city center?
You’d better to take a taxi from Pudong airport to your Yinchen Hotel. Yincheng Hotel is 13.5km to the northwest of Pudong airport, taking 20 minutes by taxi.
By the way, I learn that Yicnchen Hotel may have free shuttle buses from Pudong airport. So please check with your hotel or your hotel booking agent for the free shuttle buses.
Please ask your hotel staff about the transportation to the city center after you check-in.
We will be arriving at Pudong Airport and staying at the Astor House Hotel, 15 Huangpu Road, Shanghai.
Please let me know what is the best route – we would like to take the Maglev and then either a train connection or taxi from Llongyang Station if that is possible and the fastest solution.
Thanks.
First take maglev to Longyang Station and change for Subway Line 2 and get off at the station of East Nanjing Road (南京东路站) and walk to your hotel if you don’t have much luggage.

Hello Jyothi,
First take subway line 2 directly from Pudong Airport and interchange for Subway line 1 at the stop of People’s Square (a big transit hub). So continue to take subway line 1 and get off at the stop of Shanghai Railway Station and exit from Exit 4 and walk to your hotel. Your Holiday Inn adjoins Shanghai Railway Station to its northwest.
Hi! We are arriving 11:45pm at Shanghai Pudong Airport, What are the ways to get to the bund area hotels and how much would it cost? Since we will be arriving late, we want to know the quickest way. Thanks!
Hello Jandi,
Arriving at Pudong Airport at 11:45pm, you are only left the choice of taking a cab since all other forms of public transportation ( shuttle bus, subway and maglev ) are not available due to the late hour. It costs you about CNY 180 for the taxi night ride from Pudong airport to your hotel on the Bund.
Hi..is there any shuttle bus to Nanjing Road ? I will be staying at Radisson Blu New World..if i take a taxi, how much it will cost me ? Thanks..
Hello Leeann,
I think your hotel – Radisson Blu New World is located on 88 Nanjing Road! So you are on Nanjng Road! Please ask your hotel people for the direction to the pedestrian section of the Nanjing Road.

Hello Gary,
It’s a bt late for subway and shuttle bus, you may try taxis, which are available 24 hours.
I have 7:55 a.m. flight to HKG from Pudong Airport. Will stay near Bund. Can I take subway line 2 to Maglev, transfer to Maglev and reach airport by 7 (and is that early enough?)? How hard is it to transfer from Line 2 to Maglev, buy ticket, etc.? Thanks.
Hello Susan,
You have three choices of transportation to go to Pudong airport:
1. Take subway line 2 directly from downtown ( to say, East Nanjing Road Station or People’s Square station, both not far from your hotel ).
Taking the subway of line 2 from East Nanjing Road (南京东路),interchange at Guanglan Road (广兰路),till you get to Pudong airport. If you take the earliest train starting from East Nanjing Road at 5:35 and you will get to Pudong airport in one hour at about 6:54am.
2. Take subway line 2 and interchange at Longyang Station (龙阳)for Maglev. The first maglev train starts from Longyang Station at 06:45am. So you will arrive at Pudong airport around 7:00am.
3. In your case, I suggest you prebook a taxi to get to Pudong airport at least 2-3 hours in advance since Shanghai – Hongkong belongs to a kind of international flights.
