1. May I know when is the best time in October to visit Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong? We wish to see more yellow and red leaves than green leaves.

   Is 13th Oct to 15th Oct better scenery than 20th Oct to 22nd Oct?

   The best time to view the colorful leaves in Autumn at Jiuzhaigou is basically from October 15 to October 25.

   Yes, it is cold around on 9-Nov in Jiuzhaigou since it is in winter. It is hard to say it will snow or not. The Nov 9 has just passed the best time for leaves peeping.

   But it is ok to visit Jiuzhaigou during this time of the year. Be ready for some winter jacket. There is a big temperature difference in a day.

    Normally, you only can see colourful leaves at Jiuzhaihou in Autumn ( Oct – early Nov ). In May, Jiuzhigou enters spring time with temperature ranging between 11～25 degree. A big temperature difference between day and night. The end of May will find Jiuzhaihou greener and beautiful, a good time to visit Jiuzhaigou.

    Personally, I prefer to travel Jiuzhaigou between Oct 15 – October 25, the best time to see the colorful leaves and ponds during autumn in Jiuzhaigou.

    Of course, it will be teeming with tourists in this high tourist season. So you should book your flights and hotels well in advance. Few travel agents can do a good job due to the high season. You may use http://english.ctrip.com to book your hotel and flights. Just book a hotel close to the entrance to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area. They offer shuttle bus service within the scenic area. Have a good time!

14. Hi, I would like to avoid high tourist season so I see the next best season would be Spring but I heard that the ultraviolet rays are very strong? What is the leaves color condition and temperature like if we do this in early June OR late August?

    The high season for Jiuzhaigou starts from June to October. It is a good idea to travel Jiuzhaigou in early June to avoid the summer vacation in July and August. The best color falls on Mid-October. The June view is ok.

    The time during 17-25sept13 is too early to see the Fall Foliage in Jiuzhaigou. The Mid-October is the best time to view the coloful leaves. But the Jiuzhaigou in mid-September is also beautiful.

    Last time, we went to Jiuzhaigou around October 18 and had a beautiful scenery with autumn leaves. If uou visit Jiuzhaihou during the first week of November, I think you still can still catch a last autumn view of Jiuzhaigou. Good luck！

    Though in spring time, you still need to bring your down jacket ( winter clothes ) due to the low temperature in the early morning and the evening. At the same time you need to take
    sunburn cream to protect yourself from the possible strong sunshine during the day. Lastly, don’t forget to get your umbrella for possible rain due to the changeable weather in the mountainous areas at a high sea level.

    It is ok to visit Jiuzhaigou in early August. It is a fairly busy season, so you need to book your hotels and air-tickets upfront. You’d better bring jackets and thin sweaters due to the lower temperature in the morning and in the afternoon. The high season for Jiuzhaigou starts from late August to October.

    Sure, the end of October is still the best season to view the leaves and the coloful ponds in Jiuzhaigou. A big temperature difference between day and night, please prepare for thicker jackets in the evening. Also be ready for umbrallas in case of rain. Have a good time in Jiuzhaigou!

    We are planning our trip through China so I can still modify the dates, however time-wise the best for us would be around 1-3 November and it is a weekend. Since it is the beginning of lower season can I expect that it will not be so busy during the weekends anymore? Or is it always better in the week day. I can try to push it towards Monday (4th Nov) but I would like to be there as soon as I can.

    Actually, lower tourist season starts from Mid-November for most of the places in China. So early November we still see lots of tourists. Basically a bit busier on weekends than weekdays. Have a good trip!

I am going to China in early October (yes, I know, I must be crazy), and I am thinking about visiting Huanglong one day in October 8th, then heading that afternoon to Jiuzhaigou and stay there October 9th and 10th, then do an evening flight to Chengdu. Do you think there will be way too many Chinese tourists during that season? I read some tips on how to avoid the crowds and be able to take pleasant hikes far from the main roads. Hopefully this is true, because I totally HATE to have people/tourists on my pictures with the landscape. What do you think?
    Also, I read about some Tibetan villages and eco tourism in Jiuzhaigou, and was interested to spend the night at Zhima village to see daily life. Unfortunately, I have only seen pictures, but no maps or contact information. Do you know if this can be accessed somewhere on the web?

    Yes, there will be hordes of tourists flocking Jiuzhaigou in early October -China’s National Day. It is difficult to avoid them. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information on Zhima village. Have a goodt time in Jiuzhaigou!

    Mid-November is in late atumtun with the big difference in day and night tempertures ( around 5℃ – 12℃ ）. You are advised to take your winter jacket (down jacket). You still can catch a little bit fall foliage. Have a good time in Jiuzhaigou.

    The April’s Temperature in Jiuzhaigou is approx. between 5℃ and 16℃ with a big drop of temerature day and night. Be ready for jacket and sweater. It rarely snows in April. Visiting Jiuzhaigou in April is recommended since the spring of Jiuzhaigou is beautiful.

    The low tourist season of Jiuzhaigou starts from Nov 16 with discounted entrance tickets at RMB 80 ( high season RMB 220). So many people would visit Jiuzhaigou after Nov.16. The time from 9th November to 16th November will find fewer tourists inside Jiuzhaigou, a good opportunity to take beautiful pictures of the natural views.

    There is little fall foliage in Jiuzhaigou duting mid-November. But the mid-November Jiuzhaigou still has much charm – beautiful water with the reflection of the bald trees. Jiuzhaihou has its enticing views in different seasons.

    In mid-November there is possibly a light snow on the mountain with a fairly big temerature differende between day and night. You should be ready for winter clothes ( down jacket, feather coat, sweater, scarf,long woolen underwear…). Of course, at noon you have to take off some of winter clothes，you have to be aware of this and cope with it.

    Things to take note of
    1) Your hotel must have hot water 24 hours ( or at least in the evening)
    2) Your hotel much have electric blankets
    4）It is adviasble to take a thermos of hot waterwith you travling Jiuzhaigou since it is cold inside the valleys in Jiuzhaigou.
    5) There is only one dining center inside Jiuzhaigou, RMB 68 buffet lunch. You may bring somes snacks ans fruits.
    6) Entrance fee RMB220 + RMB 90 ( shuttle buses inside the valleys of Jiuzhaigou ). Jiuzhaigou is in the shape of “Y”. You first visit the right side of “Y”. Then visit the left side and lastly the middle side.
    7) Buy a tourist map of Jiuzhaigou and clearly know the bus stops at each sight inside Jiuzhaigou.

    What will be the weather temperature in end of Jan to beginning Feb next year? Comparing to end Dec to beginning of Jan next year, which period will be of a better time to visit Jiuzhaiguo? Understand that the air quality is badly affected in Jiuzhaiguo now, what can I expect by end Dec? Tks.

    As far as I know, it makes no big difference whether traveling to Jiuzhaigou in early Jan or Feb. The average temperature would be -2℃ – 2℃. But the feeling temperature will be a bit lower due to the wet weather. Please wear warmly while traveling in Jiuzhaigou in winter.

    Try to find a hotel that offers hot water, not far from the entrance to Jiuzhaigou. It all depends on you as to taking a group tour or travel independently. Both are ok.

49. I am planning a trip to Jiuzhaigou end of April nxt yr. Are the roads to this place from Chengdu slippery? Will there be chances of landslides during this period? Tks!

    It is not easy to answer your question. Basically it is safe to drive from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou since part of the road is Expressway. But it is hard to predict what will happen in April next year. Anyhow, good luck for your trip!
