The festival ceremony itself doeen’t last long, and the festival organization puts a very tight sightseeing fam schedule for the participants as if in an attempt to cram all the “must to see” into the minds of attendees.
Before found oil, Kalamay was a a barren and deserted region at the northwest edge of Xinjiang Zhungar Basin. Karamy oilfield became the first large oilfield in new China as a result of the commercial oil flow found in well Karamy 1 on Oct.29, 1955.
Established in 1958 as a city, now Kalamay has become a rich and green city after over 50 years’construction. It is a human wonder, unbelievable beyond your imagination! Now Karamay is one under direct jurisdiction of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

“Karamay” means “black oil” in Uyghur. Karamay was born from black oild and has been developing owing to the black oil. It is the only city named after black oil in the world.
Karamay Culture and Leisure Street
Located in Yuanlin Road, Karamay Culture Street is a pedestrian streeet with culture themes. The street is 1065 meters long and 50-70 meters wide with an area of 70,000 square meters. It is the main street where local residents spend their leisture time in cultural and leisure activities.

Karamay River and Nine Dragon Pond
With an investment of 5 billion yuan, the 465km water introduction project was completed on August 01, 2000. The man made water passage starts from the Erqisi in Burjin to the Nine Dragon Pond in Karamay. The project itself was an outstanding human wonder, which has greatly enhanced the development of Karamay and laid a solid foundation for future generations.
