Attending My Company's Annual Meeting 2007
On Jan 26,2007,starting from my office at 1:30 pm, I drove my red Passat for the venue at Huairou District Beijing. There were totally 5 persons in my car including myself. We were supposed to get to the meeting place at 3:00pm. I was worried that we would be late for the meeting. But to my pleasant surprise, my colleage, Mr.Liu, who drove ahead of me, chose a newly-opened highway ( actually part of the highway), which I had never used before. It is the Beijing-Chengde Highway and Huairou is just on the highway. The contruction of the highway from Beijing downtown to Huairou is finished. So my drive from office to the meeting place only took one and half hours and we just caught the time for the meeting. It is said that the whole 250-km-long Beijing-Chengde Highway will be completed in 2008. The the total drive from Beijing to Chengde will be shortened to 2 hours instead of the present 4-5 hours. So by the year 2008, there will be more and more tourists will come to the Chengde for sightseeing, the largest royal garden in China. As for Huairou District, it is one of the most beautiful places in Beijing with featuring hills and green trees. The famous Mutianyu Great Wall is also located in this district. On weekends lots of Beijingers like to come here to spend their holidays. There are a great number of hotels and inns here. The reason for our company having chosen the outskirt hotel in Huairou as its venue is to let the staff to relaxe and rewind, a kind of compensation to their past year' hard work.
The meeting lasted two hours. My big boss gave a long and informative speach to sum up the whole year's company management and delivered a work report. I worked for my company-Beijing Xinhua International Tours co.,Ltd., one of the leading travel agencies based in Beijing. I'm in charge of incoming travel, one of the three important parts of the our company's business scope. The other two are domestic and outcoming travel. The tourism in China is developing very fast. But I feel, it's a shame that most of the inoming travel agencies feature "small in business scope", "scattered in organization" and " weak in management". What are the reasons behind it? I think, one of the biggest reasons is that these incoming travel agencies have little management and client resources. Where are the resources? They are in the hands of the staff. Many staff turn the company's resources into their own with their capability growing. Very often many unlucky and poor bosses of incoming travel agencies have to sell their companys'licences to their operation departments or even staff. Maybe the licenses are their only resourses to generate profit. I think, the way out is for the incoming travel agencies to find, build and control their own resourses and keep the companies going smoothly and healthily. Like most of the important meetings in China ending with a big feast, our meeting was no exception. After the dinner, we had fireworks! In China people say the fireworks can keep us from bad luck and bring us fortune. Hope the fireworks can really bring us good luck and rich butter for the year 2007! |
