Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling
The former residence of Soong Ching Ling, wife of Dr. Sun Yatsen, was once the garden of Prince Chun’s mansion in the Qing Dynasty. Soong lived here from 1963 until she died, on May 29th, 1981.The main architecture in the courtyard is a small two-storey building. The exhibition in the building displays nearly 400 pictures of Soong Ching Ling’s life, and over 300 pieces of cultural artifacts.
The interior of the building in the middle courtyard is arranged as it was when Soong lived here. On the first floor, a portrait of Dr. Su Yatsen was hung on the east wall of the small drawing room. On the second floor are her bedroom, living room and study.
Still lying on the desk in her bedroom are some books she used to read, documents, and a pair of reading glasses. By the shores of Houhai Lake stands a dove shelter. This former residence is not only an elegant and pleasant spot for sightseeing, but also the best place for visitor to remember the noble spirit of Soong Ching Ling.
