The National Museum of China was inaugurated on February 28th, 2003, directly under the Ministry of Culture of P.R. China. Formed on the basis of the National Museum of Chinese History and the National Museum of Chinese Revolution, the National Museum of China is a comprehensive museum focusing on history and arts, systematically showing the long history of China.The origin of the National Museum of Chinese History is the Preliminary Office of National History Museum set up on July 9th, 1912. As the People’s Republic of China was founded on the October 1st, 1949, the Preliminary Office was renamed as the BeijingNationalHistoryMuseumunder the Ministry of Culture of the Central Government. Later on it was entitled as the National Museum of Chinese History in 1959.
The Central University for Nationalities (CUN) is one of China’s most famous comprehensive universities, and it is one of the 38 key universities receiving direct development support from the Chinese government.
Nationalities Museum, Central University for Nationalities created in 1951,is a professional museum to collect, display, and research the culture relics of 56 ethnic groups in China. Total area is nearly 5,000 square meters. There are 14 kinds of culture relics totally about 20,000 pieces include minority groups’ production instruments, articles for use, religious artifacts, costumes, ancient artifacts, literatures, music instruments. Among of them, there are plenty of costumes, fineries, religion instruments, and Gaoshan ethnic group’s culture relics, some of them are very rare and some are the gifts presented to Chairman Mao and CPC Central Committee by minority groups in the early statehood, all have a high historical, artistic and academic research value.
Chinese Nationalities Traditional Culture Exhibition is the fixed display in museum, which comprises 4 halls, the North Nationalities Costumes & Fineries Hall, the South Nationalities Costumes & Fineries Hall, Life & Culture Hall, and Religion Culture Hall. Another topic displays are “Culture Relics of Minority Groups in Taiwan”, and “The History of Central University for Nationalities”, etc.
