Tour Description
As the most important public holiday, it officially lasts for one week. The week-long holiday see people, especially the children wearing new clothes greet their parents. The children receive their lucky money in red wrapping.
Then, the family go out to say hello to their relatives and neighbors. It is a good time for reconciliation. People cast their old grudges very easily through their greetings. The air is filled with warmth and friendliness. A series of activities such as lion dancing, dragon lantern dancing, lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held for days.
Itinerary
8:30am
Pick from your midtown hotel in Beijing and have around 30 minutes private transfer to the old hutongs and courtyards in the Shichahai area.
9:00am
Arrive at the old courtyard and begin the one hour visit inside. With the help of your English speaking tour guide of the courtyard, you will have a detailed explanation of the old courtyard ( Siheyuan ) - its history, its layout, its Fengshui, and its traditional Chinese culture involved.
10:00am
Then take a pedicab and drive through the zigzag and narrow alleys or hutongs. Two people share one rickshaw.
10:30am - 11:00am
Drop off at the the Silver Ingot Bridge ( Yinding Bridge ), a narrow channel joining Qianhai Lake and the Houhai Lake, the hub of Shichhai area with surrounding quiet hutongs. Walking along the Yandai Xiejie ( Tobacco Pipe Lean Street ), a quaint 800-year-old hutong located directly north of Yinding Bridge between Qianhai and Houhai and the south of the Drum Tower, used to be well-known for sellers of long-stemmed pipes, hence the name.
11:00am - 12:30pm
Ascending the 67-meter high and two-story Drum Tower dating from 1420 is sure to bring you back to the old Beijing by seeing the big drum tower and having bird's eye view of the surrounding communities of hutongs and siheyuan - existing traditional courtyards in Beijing.
12:30pm - 1:30pm
Lunch at a Chinese Restaurant.
1:30pm - 3:00
After lunch, continue to visit Lama Temple, also called the Yonghe Lamasery, or Yonghegong. It is the most handsome and impressive Buddhist temple in the city. Lama Temple was built in the 33 Qing Kangxi year (1694) and it is now the largest and best-preserved Lamasery of Yellow Sect in Beijing.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
Visit Ditan Park Temple Fair. This is one of the largest, most festive New Year celebrations in Beijing. The ancient temple fairs in Beijing now are only held during the Spring Festival, expanding the traditions of the past as well as being the opportunities for celebration and entertainment in the present day.
5:00pm
Back to your lodging hotel in Beijing and the day trip ends.

1. Wear casually and pay attention to the climate in Beijing.
2. The Chinese love fireworks, and before, during and after Chinese New Year, everyone sets off huge quantities of fireworks and firecrackers. Take great care while you are out walking even on busy city-centre streets. If you are tempted into buying fireworks, make absolutely sure you know how to light them.
3. With buses, cars, semis, bicycles and pedestrians moving in every direction, road crossings can be daunting.
