Haircut for the Chinese New year 2009 in Beijing
8:30 am, Jan 25, 2008
Today is the last day of the year 2008 - the year of rat. I get up early to have a haircut to welcome the new year 2009 - the year of Ox. Getting a haircut in the first lunar month puts a curse on maternal uncles. Therefore, usually people have a haircut before the New Year's Eve. There are many beauty and hair salons in my community. Golden Yongqi Beauty Salon offers both beauty treatments and Hairdressing. As a club member of the shop, I can enjoy some discount when I have my hair cut, or coloured. I don't have to make an appointment, rather I just walk in and wait for the next available hairdresser. But I do have my favorite hairdresser. He knows what I want. Normally a man's haircut costs RMB 30, which costs you only RMB 15 if you have a clubcard. Usually you have to pay RMB 1000, even more to get a clubcard. The greater amount of clubcard value, the better discount you will enjoy. For example, L'Oreal hair colour costs about RMB 240 for one time hair colouring for a clubcard holder. If no clubcard, RMB 480 per time. Golden Yongqi Beauty Salon is one of the chain beauty shops of the same name with their headquarters in Shanghai. At present there are only two chain beauty parlours here in Beijing while over 20 beauty shops in Shanghai.

Lejia Fruit and Vegetable Market 13:30pm Jan 25, 2009
After lunch, we go to Lejia Fruit and Vegetable Market to buy some vegetable. Most of the frequenters of the market come from the local community since Lejia Fruit and Vegetable Marekt is a community market where people buy vegetable, fruit, meat, eggs, local snacks and much more. Each community has one or two fruit and vegetable markets quite convenient for local people to purchase daily necessities. The market offers a wide selection of fruit and vegetable either locally produced or taken from other parts of the country. People can enjoy very good prices when they do shoppping at their own local community markets instead of some large markets located in the business centers in Beijing. Below are some mobile pictures from my short trip to the market:
