To Kubuqi Desert in Baotou
After lunch, took bus to Kubuqi Desert and the trip to the desert took us about 1 hour. We were crossing the famous Yellow River, just kilometers before arriving at the Kubuqi Desert.
Yellow River Bridge
Kubuqi Desert means “the bowstring of arch” in the Mongolian language. The Kubuqi Desert is the closest desert to Beijing and it’s exactly what our expect a desert to be: lots of un-and-down sand dunes as far as the eye can see. It is sublime, beautiful and unique, and the fine golden grains glowed in the sun.
Desert Off-road Vehicle
Take a camel ride across the desert was quite an unforgettable experience. The largest animal of the desert is the camel. Camel is called as “the ship of the desert”. A local resident said, “The Kubuqi Desert is a land of death. There’s no getting out unless you ride a camel.”

We then rode back on camels back to another area, where we had a cheerful ride waiting for us, sand sliding. Sliding down a 45 degree slope from about 10 stories us, we all went down the slope in these wooden boards… It was great fun!
Have dinner in a local Mongolia restaurant. Mutton is a must for visitor, as you can hardly find better mutton else where in China. Roasted Whole sheep, a traditional dish of Inner Mongolia. Roasted Whole Sheep banquet has a complete ceremony full of Mongolian national customs. It is not only a feast of food but also a feast of folk culture of Mongolia.
