Tour Description
Pick from your hotel in Beijing around 8:00am and drive to Shangfangshan National Forest Park. Situated in Hancunhe Village, Fangshan District, and about 70 kilometers west of Beijing, the Shangfangshan National Forest Park, has an area of 340 hectares with its main peak 860 meters high. The park has many famous attractions including the 9 big caves with the “Yunshui Cave” as the important, 12 peaks with “Zhaixingtuo” as the representative and 72 temples with “Doushuai Temple” as the most spectacular one. There are a great number of rare and ancient trees growing in the park. Shangfangshan National Forest Park is famous for the fantastic autumn view. The beauty of fall is best displayed in Shangfangshan mountains, where foliage turns colorful with the change of weather.
On the way back to Beijing after lunch, visit Tanzhe Temple. Tanzhe Temple is the oldest buddhist monastery in Beijing dating back 1600 years. Local Beijing people often say that: “First came Tanzhe Temple, then Beijing”. At a time it was one of the most important temples in Beijing. "Tan" literally means"pool". "Zhe" is a kind of trees. At the back of the temple there is a pool and "Zhe" trees are planted on the mountain at its back, hence the name of Tanzhe Temple. The main temple complex is on several levels perched on the side of a steep mountain, with a hall devoted to a different deity at each level, along with the array of incense burners. It is a beautiful landscape, specially in autumn season, with some of the leaves of the tree turned into golden colour and red being bright against the sunshine. If you climb to the highest point of the temple, you will have an excellent view of the overall temple site and the surrounding hills. So from this view, you may understand a little bit of the fengshui. Why the ancient people choose this site to have built their temple here? After visiting Tanzhe Temple, drive back to your hotel downtown Beijing.
