Taihu Lake (or Lake Tai) is the third largest freshwater lake in China. It has an area of 2250 square kilometres and as deep as 2 metres. About 90 islets, big or small, and with many fleets of fishing junk boats dotted makes the landscape even more attractive. Situated in the southwest suburb of the city, 4 kilometers away from the urban area, Taihu Lake Scenery Zone consists of Meiliang Lake scenery zone and Lihu scenery zone. Turtle Head Islet ( Yuantouzhuwas ) was first built in 1918. Surrounded by water on three sides, the Turtle Head Islet is in a shape of huge turtle's head, diving into the blue water. The main part of the Turtle Head Park is natural scenery with man-made gardens. In the park, one can only see flowers, trees and courtyards by the backdrop of Taihu Lake. Covered by dense plants, the park has lots of rocks in various shapes. There are also many pretty buildings built among the trees, including Changchun Bridge (Evergreen Bridge), Feiyun Pavilion (Scud Pavilion), Jinsong Pavilion (Sturdy Pine Pavilion), Wanfang Pavilion (All-places Pavilion), and Guangfu Temple (Bright Fortune Temple) and so on.
Cruising on the lake, you will find the good views one by one, such as the Memorial Archway of the Taihu Fairy Islands, the White Marble Screen Wall of the Jade Emperor, the Hill of Flowers and Fruits, and Water Screened Cave. You can also find monkeys jumping lively.
