History: Huangshan City has a history of more than 2,200 years which could be dating back to Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). It was once known as Xin'an and Huizhou. It only received its current name in 1987 after going through name changes during the Jin Dynasty (265-420 AD) and Song Dynasty(960-1279 AD).
Huangshan city corresponds largely to the historical region of Huizhou; indeed Huangshan city was known as Huizhou Prefecture before 1987. The name change was made to reflect the cultural and touristic preeminence of the Huangshan Mountains.
Climate: Huangshan City is located in the mountainous area of southern Anhui Province, lies on north of mid subtropical zone. It has subtropical monsoon humid climate, with four distinctive seasons. Spring and autumn are short, while summer and winter are long. The annual average temperature is 15.5℃-16.4℃. Rainfall is abundant in the area and occurs mainly from May to August each year.
Visitors to Huangshan City are there mostly for the stunning sights on Mt. Huangshan, so weather on Mt. Huangshan is also a factor for tourists.
Weather on Mt. Huangshan is marine-like; temperatures are lower at higher altitudes. From April to June Mt. Huangshan is rainy, misty and cloudy. It is cool in summer while the average temperature of winter is above 0℃. The mountain's variable weather adds a different dimension each season.
Transportation: Airline- Huangshan Airport, also called Tunix Airport, is only 7kms from the city center. It contains the airlines to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, etc.
Railway- Huangshan Railway Station is in Tunxi, contains the trains to almost cities of China.
Tunxi Long-distance Station is in front of the railway station, then it is really convenient to go to Huangshan Beauty Spot by coach.
Highway- There are three Long-distance Bus Stations here.
Huangshan Lang-distance Bus Station, also named Tunxi Station, is about one and a half hour distance from Huangshan with the fare 15 yuan. The fare is 18 yuan in high speed, less than an hour.
Tangkou Station is at the foot of Huangshan, opening long-distance bus to Shanghai, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and so on.
There is another station near the New National Line Change Center, Huangshan Beauty Center. There are nonstops to some cities of China such as Shanghai, Huangshan, etc.
