Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge
Zhongshan Bridge, the first bridge over the Yellow River, is a must see attraction for the first time visitors to Lanzhou. It is located at the foot of White Pagoda Moutain and the west of Lanzhou Waterwheel Park.
The Zhongshan Bridge is known as the symbol of Lanzhou City for its majestic looks and uniqueness. The bridge was first built under the reign of the Ming Dynasty. The Qing rulers expanded and reconstructed the bridge to its current size and style at the cost of huge funds.
The Bridge was 234 meters long and 7.5 meters wide with 6 pillars and 5 steel arches. All materials including the rivets were transported from Germany to China by ships, trains, carts and other means possible. The bridge was completed in two years and given the name ’Lanzhou Iron Bridge over the Yellow River’. In the year 1942, the bridge was renamed Zhongshan Bridge in honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
The Zhongshan Bridge is remembered forever as a piece of history and a cultural relic.
