Location: Fujian is on the southeast coast of China, bordering Zhejiang to the north, Jiangxi to the west, and Guangdong to the south.

History: Fujian was called the Region of Minyue (Seven Min Tribes) in ancient times. During Qing Dynasty, the prefecture of Min-Zhong was launched to govern Dongye (now called Fuzhou). In the 2nd year of Shi-Yuan (Emperor Zhao) of Western Han (85 B.C.), the name was changed into Prefecture Ye, and Dong-Hou-Guan during Han Dynasty.
In the 21st year of Kai-Yuan reign of Tang Dynasty (year 733), the post of Fujian Military Commissioner was officially launched, and the province was hereafter called Fujian. During Southern Song, there are one prefecture, five subprefectures and two military prefectures, and Fujian was therefore also called "Eight Min".
Fujian has been an important culture center and trade center in the history, i.e., "Maritime Silk Road", starting-point of Zheng He's voyages and Islam base. Fuzhou and Xiamen have also been listed as one of five treaty ports, while the Port of Mawei was the cradle for the modern shipbuilding industry and scientific talents.
Climate: Fujian has a subtropical climate, with warm winters. In January the coastal regions average around 7-10 degrees Celsius while the hills average 6-8 degrees Celsius. In summer temperatures are high, and province is threatened by typhoons coming in from the Pacific. Average annual precipitation is 1400-2000 mm.
Transportation: Since the reform and opening up, the communications and transportation industry of Fujian has seen rapid development. A comprehensive transportation network, with railways, highways, waterways and airways as its backbone, has basically been set up. Railways:There are 2 main lines, namely, Yingxia and WaiFu. Besides the Hengnan Railway and the Zhang-Quan-Xiao Railway will also be coppleted in 1997.
The construction of the third railway connecting with the rest of China , from Longyan to Meizhou and the railways of Wen(zhou) Fu(zhou) lines and Zhang(zhou) Chao(zhou) Shan(tou) line also starts one after another.

Wuyi Mountain-The Wuyi mountain scenic spot situated in the middle of the Wuyi mountain range, within the boundary of Wuyishan City, has an area of 60 sqkm. The Nine Twist Stream, a meadering brook running nine kilometers through the mountain, is a beautiful, natural landscape painting.
Well-known for its scholars and poets like Zhuxi, Luyou and Xinqiji who visited and lectured here. As a result, a valuable cultural heritage has been preserved. A 3, 000- year coffin in the shape of a boat, known as a hanging coffin. And many stone and porcelain relics are kept on display. Wuyi Scenic Spot has been designated as a key national scenic spot.
Meizhou Island-At Meizhou bay mouth in the middle of the west bank of Taiwan Strait lays Meizhou Island. It has a land area of 14.35 km2 and a population of 39,000. In 1988, Meizhou Island was approved by Fujian Provincial government as a tourism economic zone open to the outside, and as one of the first 12 national tourist resorts approved by the State Council in 1992. It is a 4A national tourist attraction.
Qingshui Rock-Inscription and petroglyph of Qingshui Rock covers an area of 20 squares which revolves Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties to modern times. Most of calligraphy is Kaishu and Xingshu. The inscription painting of Song dynasty is most valuable, which is a panoramic inscription of Qingshui rocks embossment, and it’s also a peculiar ancient “Tourist Map”.
