Dazhao Monastery, Inner-Mongolia
Dazhao Monastery, to the east of Xilitu Zhao, is the largest and best-preserved monastery in Hohhot, Inner-Mongolia province. Dazhao means “Wu Liang” in Chinese and “Grand Monastery” in Mongolian. It was built firstly in Ming Dynasty, and rebuilt in Qing Dynasty, in 1640 year. Dazhao Monastery is the first Lama monastery in Hohhot. For hundreds of years, it has been considered as a religious center for people from all over Mongolia.
As a famous tourist resort, its illustrious palace, vivid sculpture, fancy frescos, numerous scriptures, mystic dance and Buddhism music make up the unique “Monastery Culture”. The “Three Marvelous Treasures” of Dazhao Monastery, Silver Buddha, Dragon sculpture, as well as Fresco, are the relics of Ming Dynasty with high technics and article value.
Silver Buddha refers to the statue of Sakyamuni in the palace, which is the largest silver statue of its kinds at present. The whole statue was made by pure silver, so the monastery once called “Silver Buddha Monastery”.
Two 10-meter high golden dragons circle on two poles in the front of the Silver Buddha’s seat. The two dragon saber rattling and looking down from up, look like circling in the air, Fresco is the feature of the monastery. The fresco is on the theme of Buddhism figures and stories, painting all sorts of vision of the heaven, the world and the hell. The color is still gorgeous as the begin, thought the past of hundreds of years.
