Location: It is situated in the upper reaches of the Jiulong and Tingjiang river. Longyan borders on the municipalities Sanming to the north, Quanzhou to the east, Longyan to the southeast, and the provinces of Jiangxi and Guangdong to the west and south respectively.

History: Longyan history dates back since long ago, in the age of Emperor Kaiyuan of Tang Dynasty (736 A.D.), a place called Ting Zhou was established. During Yuan Dynasty (1278 A.D.), Ting Zhou was promoted to Lu, and later in the 1st year of Emperor Hongwu of Ming Dynasty (1368 A.D.), it changed into Tingzhou Fu (“Fu” is like a prefecture). The city began to called Longyan County when Yongzheng of Qing Dynasty (1734 A.D.) reigned, but the city was changed administration several times.
Climate: The climate type of Longyan is subtropical marine monsoon climate. The annual temperature is between 18.7 degrees Centigrade (65.5°F) and 21 degrees Centigrade (70°F). The average amount of precipitation is between 1031 and 1369 millimeters. The hours of sunshine is between 1804 hours and 2060. The rainfall is sufficient and the climate of the whole year is mild and comfortable.
Transportation: By Air-Currently there is no airport in Longyan. The preparation work for constructing an airport is in progress. Tourists can first arrive at Xiamen airport and then go to Longyan City.
By Highway -Besides Zhanglong highway, there are also Number 205 and 391 national highways running across Longyan City.
