Day By Day Itinerary

Arrival at Xian by train or flight, met by our English speaking tour guide and visit the Terra-cotta Army - a lifetime viewing of the extraordinary 2200-year-old terra-cotta Army of China's First Emperor-Qin Shihuang. The emperor Qin Shi Huang who was the first emperor to unite China in 221 BC started to build his own mausoleum 35 years before his death. The Terracotta Army was to protect him after his death. Only a small part of the Terracotta Army has been restored. The museum shows different stages in the slow restoration process. Then, you will take a short visit to the Pottery-making House.

After having the local flavor - Dumpling Dinner, enjoy Tang Dynasty Show in the evening. Transferred back to your hotel.

After breakfast at hotel, your city tour begins with a visit to the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum - a large modern museum of the national level where you will see the artifacts that have been collected in Shaanxi Province since the upper Cave Man 18,000 years ago. Then move on to Big Goose Pagoda ( Ascending the pagoda is optional). The Pagoda is over 1000 years old and has 6 levels. It was used to store and protect Buddhist writings in the past.

Today you have a la carte lunch with an a la carte menu at a nice local restaurant, where you could enjoy the authentic Chinese food. After lunch, visit the Muslim Quarter, a delightful place you will never miss! The bazaar in the Muslim area is most attractive with a wide area of stalls selling everything.

The famous Great Mosque is located in the Muslim Quarter area. Great Mosque,is the biggest and most preserved complete Chinese existent mosque. It was first built at the Tianbao first year (742 years) during Tang Dynasty.

Then visit the Xian City Wall, a symbol of great significance of the famous historic cultural city of Xian. The City Wall started to be built in 194 B.C. The wall is 25.7 KM in length and is 12-16 meters in the base. Bicycles can be rented to ride. The wall encloses a city area of 36 square kilometers. Transferred back to your hotel.

After early breakfast at your hotel, today you take a private vehicle escorted by our English speaking tour guide for Yan'an. Yan'an was the capital of Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region and the the headquarter of Chinese Communist Party from 1936 to 1948. It is the most famous revolutionary base in China. Many historical events such as the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Rectification Movement in Yan'an, as well as the General Production Movement took place here. It was the birthplace of the Chinese revolution and the establishment of New China.

After lunch, first visit Yangjialing Revolution Headquarters Site. It was one of the early headquarters of CCP in Yan'an during the period of 1938 to 1940, 1942 to 1943. Here you can see the assembly hall where the first central committee meetings were held, inclduing the 7th national plenum. Nearby you can find some digouts into the loess earth where Mao, Zhu De, Zhou Enali and other senior communist eaders lived.

Then move on to Zaoyuan Revolutiona Headquarters Site (Date Garden), the site of the Former Offices CCP Secretariat from 1941 to March 1947. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhude, Peng Dehuai, Ren Bishi and other top leaders of CCP, moved here from 1943. Once the former manor of the Shanbei warlord, it was rebuilt and expanded from 1941 and completed in 1943. Over 20 cave houses and bungalow houses were built as well as one auditorium.

Stay overnight in Yan'an

After breakfst, first visit Wangjiaping Revolution Headquarters Site, the last site used by the communist leaders in yan'an. Wangjiaping literally means "The high land of Wangs'Family", a place that used to the site of Central Military Committee and the headquarter of Eighteenth Group Army between 1937 and 1947. Chairman Mao Zedong, the top Chinese leader Zude, Zhou Enlai, Peng Dehuai and etc, once also lived in Wangjiaping.

Then move on to Yan'an Revolution Museum. This museum is housed in a most prominent builing in Yan'an - Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall. It offers a detailed account of the CCP's time in Yan'an and the War of Resistance Against Japan.

Continue go up the Treasure Pagoda, Yan'an most prominent landmark where you are able to have an bird-eye view of the city of Yan'an.

After lunch, drive to Hukou Waterfall. Hukou Waterfalls is located about 140km in the southeast of Yanan (Hukou Waterfalls is under the administration of Yanan) the largest yellow waterfalls in the world. Hukou Waterfalls can be viewed either from Shaanxi side or Shanxi side since Yellow River is a border river dividing Shaanxi Province and Shanxi Province. The viewing place on Shaanxi side is lower than Shanxi side, which makes the waterfalls looks much more magnificent than viewed from Shaanxi side.

After viewing the amazing Hukou Waterfall, you are transferred back to the city of Xian. Overnight in Xian.
