The Temple of Mencius in Shandong
Mengzi is a another famous thinker and educationist in Warring Stated in China, he was a formal inheriting scholar of Confucian school He is respected as “Yasheng (Under Sage)” by successive scholars only next to Confucius.
Temple of Mencius is the place to worship Mencius. It was repaired several times during Jin, Yuan, Ming, Qing and has its present size. The temple is 317 meters long from south to north and 85 meters wide from east to west, covering an area of over 100 acres. The whole temple is divided into 5 rows of constructions with 64 halls and two stele pavilions. The grand hall, Yasheng Hall is used to sacrifice Mencius, which is seven rooms wide and has 26 octagonal columns built on drum-shaped base. In the temple 275 stone tablets and 101 stone figures from the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AC) are preserved. The temple is surrounded by many old trees such as cypresses dotted with gingko trees and Chinese wisteria.
The whole temple is an artistic museum with Chinese ancient construction, sculpture and drawing technology. It shines with the Confucian Temple in Qufu and it is worth visiting as a "culture visiting".
