Hongjiang Travel Guide
Location: Hongjiang city is situated in the west of Hunan Province.

Area: with an area of 2,173 square kilometers

History: Hongjiang City was merged with Qianyang County to form the new Hongjiang in 1997. However, the residents of the old Hongjiang City resisted this merge. In 1999, the old Hongjiang was separated from the new Hongjiang City and form a special Hongjiang District
Transportation: Located in western Hunan Province, Hongjiang used to be a major transportation center for timber, tobacco, and oils. Nowadays, China National Highway 209 over through the small town.
Overview: Covering an area of more than 200,000 square kilometers, Hongjiang is administratively divided into four stret offices and three village demotic governments. All the houses there are all with capital, grey tile and plastered wall, and lie in undulation within the “seven faltlands, eight alleys, and nine steets”. The houses are engraved with dragon on the beam and painted with phoenix.
There are couplets, tablets, and carved stones of Ming, Qing and Republic Period. Nowadays, there still keeps more than 380 ancient architectures, such as guest house, temple, and residential houses. They are either built at the high slope, or at the deep alley, or by the riverside, being connected through the winding bluestone slabs or seesawing stone step piers. One by one, patch by patch, with the mountain as the frame, the river as the blood vein.
