My Trip to Hangzhou
- On my way homeWest of the West Lake - Su Causeway ( including Yuefei Tomb and Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden )
Yue Fei was a famous Chinese patriot and military general who fought for the Southern Song Dynasty against the armies of the Jin Dynasty. After his political execution, Yue Fei was buried by the West Lake. He has now turned into the standard model of loyalty in Chinese culture.
Breeze – ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden is one of the top ten scenic spots in Hangzhou. The Lotus garden - Quyuan used to be a vinery planted with many lotuses. Quyuan was at its best in summer when the breeze blows over the scented with delicate fragrance of lotus intermingled with the tasteful bouquet of wine. Now the garden has been widened to cover 5 sections - Yue Lake, Bamboo Garden, Lotus Garden, Winding Garden and Lakeside Forest.
Su Causeway was named after Su Shi ( also known as Su Dongpo),who came to Hangzhou as governor in the early Song Dynasty (1086-1094). There are six bridges along the 2.6 km Su Causeway. "Dawn on the Su Causeway in Spring" is one of the top ten attractions in Hangzhou. Su Shi ( also known as Su Dongpo ) was a great poet. It was he who ordered the dredging of the mud lake overgrown with lots of the weeds. And farmers piled up all the mud into another causeway, in the style of Bai Causeway.
