Location: Wanzhou is located 350 kilometers down stream from Chongqing and spreads out on both sides of the river.Population: 1,730,000
Area: 3457 square kilometers
History: The city got its present name starting from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). It is a city with a history of more than 1,700 years. It was part of Quren District of Ba Prefecture in the Qin Dynasty. It became Yangqu District in 216 (the Eastern Han Dynasty). In 230 (the Shu-Han Kingdom), it was renamed to Nanpu; in 553 (the Western Wei Dynasty), to Yuquan; in 557 (Northern Zhou Dynasty), to Anxiang; in 584, to Wanchuan; and in 598 (Sui Dynasty), to Nanchang again.
It continued to be renamed and administration slightly changed. In 1935, it became Wanxian Zhuanqu. On December 12, 1992, the State Council abolished Wanxian Prefecture and its subordinate Wanxian City and created the prefecture-level Wanxian City.
Transportation: Wanzhou Airport has been opened. There are scheduled lines to Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Shenzheng and so on.
National Highway 318 come across the city.
Waterway is developed, for Wanzhou harbor is the main hinge in Yangtze River main stem.
Main Attractions:
You will be arranged to visit silk-weaving factories, the Three Gorges Museum and take a shopping tour of busy local market. Visitors can find some of the city's free markets sellsing local products and seasonal delicacies such as mountain mushrooms or live eels. It was said there was once was a community of foreign missionaries in Sichuan before 1949. Two churches -one Catholic and one Protestant still stand there to attract many local people.
