Chongqing:
Located in southwestern China on the upper reaches of the Changjiang (Yangtze) River, Chongqing Municipality is the largest industrial and commercial center in the southwest of China.Chongqing has been regarded as a "mountain city" because of its buildings on hillsides and mountains surrounding the city. The climate in Chongqing is often cloudy and misty. As a result, it is also called "the fog city". It's very hot in summer, hence the name of "furnace city". Chongqing is the best point to start a boat excursion and tour the world-famous Three Gorges on the Changjiang River.
Fengdu:
Fengdu lies on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, about 170KM downstream from Chongqing. Fungdu is famous for its "Ghost City" well known in China. It is a must- shore excursion site on the Yangtze cruise.Fengdu got its fame as the "Ghost City" in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Fengdu’s ghost culture has attracted a large number of tourists, which has topped more than 1 million a year.
Shibaozhai:
Shibaozhai is a 12- story wooden pagoda set up against the side of a sheer rectangular cliff, a amazaing structure. Shibaozhai literally means Stone Treasure Fortress. It lies in Zhong County on the south bank of the Yangtze River, 278 km away from Chongqing. It was first set up in Qing Dynasty in 1750.
Wanxian:
The city got its present name starting from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The city is known as the Gateway to East Sichuan. It lies on the middle way between Yichang and Chongqing. You will be arranged to visit silk-weaving factories, the Three Gorges Museum and take a shopping tour of busy local market. Visitors can find some of the city's free markets sellsing local products and seasonal delicacies such as mountain mushrooms or live eels. It was said there was once was a community of foreign missionaries in Sichuan before 1949. Two churches -one Catholic and one Protestant still stand there to attract many local people.
Lesser Three Gorges:
The Daning River at the western entrance to Wuxia Gorge is flanked by continuous strange peaks. The section of the river becomes known as the Lesser Three Gorges. These three lesser gorges lie on the lower reaches of the Daning. Here sheer cliffs and steep mountains rise on either side. People take about 3 hours' boat trip upstream on the Daning river, starting from where it joins the Yangtze river.
Shennong Stream:
The Shennong Stream is a tributary with clear water coming into the Yangtse River. The "stream" runs through steep tributary gorges. It was said that once the ancient asian Bahu people used to live on the sides of the streams thousands of years ago. The area is now inhabited by Tujin, one of the minority peoples of China. Tuji people have stll kept much of the primitive culture like the traditional tracker boats. These kinds of boats are are powered by rowing, or by the long ropes carried by the men on the shore in conditions of shallow or fast flowing water.
Three Gorges:
The Yangtze River ( or called "Changjiang" in Chinese ) is over 6,300 kilometers long, the largest and longest river in China, also the third longest in the world, next just to the Nile in northeast Africa and the Amazon in South America. The source of the Yangtze River is linked to the Tanggula Mountain chain in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, southwest of China. The Yangtze River flows from west to east through provinces of Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and Jiangsu as well as the city of Chongqing, Wuhan and Shanghai, finally entering the East China Sea. With much rainfall all year round, the Yangtze River is regarded as the golden watercourse. The most impressive part of the river is the three Yangtze River gorges, namely Qutang Gorge, Wuxia Gorge and Xiling Gorge, known as Sanxia in Chinese, or the Three Gorges.
The Three Gorges Dam:
China has embarked on the greatest project since the building of the Great Wall and the Grand Canal -- the Three Gorges Dam project. The Three Gorges Dam will be the largest hydropower station and dam in the world. This project will cost more than in fact any other single construction project in human history. Construction started in 1994 and is planned for completion by 2009. Construction on the dam itself was finished in May 2006.
Yichang:
Yichang City lies at the west of China's Hubei Province, on the the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Due to its good geographic location, Yichang has been regared as a dispatching center, an important trading port and a transportation hub along the Yangtze river connecting west Hubei and east Sichuan from early times. It is said to be as "Gateway to the Three Gorges", and "Throat between Sichuan and Hubei". Today, Yichang remains a brisk river port of China, among Chongqing, Wuhan and Shanghai.
Shashi (Jingzhou):
The ancient city of Jingzhou lies about 240km west of Wuhan and is part of the port of Shashi. Jingzhou is a medium-size city in Hubei province on the road between Yichang to Wuhan. Jingzhou used to be a place of strategic importance in the past. In 689 BC, the Kingdom of Chu moved its capital here to the city which has long disappeared. It is said that the ancient city walls were built by Guan Yu. Actually the present city walls were built in 1644. They circle the ancient city for 10km and are 8 meters high, 10 meters thick with 6 city gates.
Wuhan:
Wuhan is the capital city of Hubei Province, a place where Yangtze River and the Han River joins.Wuhan is composed of three major parts: Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang..Because of its hot summer weather, Wuhan is known as one of the "Three Furnaces" of China, along with Nanjing and Chongqing. Wuhan is by far the hottest of the Three Furnaces.A 2400 year-old tomb excavated at Wuhan contained many musical instruments, including a magnificent collection of bells. The musical instruments are now at the Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan. Wuhan is an energetic city, a commercial centre of finance, industry trade and science with many international companies placed here.
