Temple of Xumi Fushou in Chengde
As the Important Historical Monuments under Special Preservation, the temple of Xumi Fushou is located in the opposite of Chengde Summer Resort. “Xumi Fushou” means blessing and longevity. This temple was built for the sixth Panchen Lama (head of Tibet) in 1780. Because on Aug.13, 1780, was the Emperor Qianlong ‘s seventieth birthday. In order to celebrate it, the master spent one year from Tibet to Chengde. Then Qianlong ordered to build a temple for him to rest and sermonize. It is the combination of Han and Tibet Architectural styles, which played an important role in the diplomatic relationship between the Chinese Emperor, Quling Long and Tibet.
The temple of Xuni Fushou corers an area of 36,700 square meters contains Stone Bridge, Stone Lion, Mountain Gate, Place for the sixth Panchen and his disciples’ accommodation, as well as Wanshou Tower.
The multi-lever roofs of the temple are of the highest aesthetic and artistic finesse. Numerous enchanting ornaments adorn the splendid roofs of these captivating temples. A total of eight gold-plated dragons grace the ridges and further roofs are decorated with traditional Tibetan portrayals of animals, such as elephants and a variety of mythical beasts. Inside a palace, Sakyamuni is oblate there. Seen from the distance, the temple exudes in impressiveness and magnificence.
Xumi-Fushou-Miao monastery is an impressive example of late 18th century Chinese architecture.
