Maduo Travel Guide
Location:Maduo in Golok Tibet Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai province is one of the coldest counties of greater Tibet. It lies at the source of Yellow River (330 km from Jeykundo or Yushu and 495 km south-west of Xining, spectacular drive with excellent road condition in both directions).
Nationality:
There are nine nationalities in Maduo County: Zang, Han, Mongolian, Hui, Salar, Man, Tu, Yao and Miao. Among these nationalities, Zang occupies most, about 85% of the whole population.
Transportation:
Maduo has very convenient transportation. National Highway No. 214 and Qing-Kang raod run through Maduo County from north to south.
There are regular buses between Xining to Maduo every morning, taking about 10 hours. You can also take the bus from Xining to Yushu, and get off at Huangheyan Station. Huangheyan is the junction of National Highway No. 214 and Chamali. There are taxis which can take you to the county in Chamali. It won’t cost you too much money.
Weather:
Maduo belongs to cold steppe climate. There is no season distinction but cold and hot difference, which are called summer and winter. Summer here is short, cool and rainy; winter here is long, cold and dry.
The annual average temperature here is 4.1 degrees below zero centigrade. The temperature of the coldest January is -16.8℃. Maduo is the coldest place of Qinghai Province.

Eling Lake
Eling Lake is one of the most major two lakes in the Yellow River source area. Eling Lake, in Tibetan language means "a long blue lake" is the Tibetan based on the color and shape of the lake and named it.
From afar, like an upside down lake of the Admiralty, color blue, pure sweet water. Blue sky, white clouds, green, green lake in the sun each other, showing off the beautiful highland scenery unlimited. Although there are no little fish fan here, but sparkling, there is no place on both sides, green grass everywhere, spring waters here, and sheep everywhere. Keep everything simple beauty of the wilderness.
Zhaling Lake
Zhaling Lake, in Tibetan means "the long white Lake", because of their white color and the name slightly. This is an oval-shaped lake, shaped like a monk with the wooden fish, shallow lake than many E’ling Lake.
Zhaling Lake was injected from the southwest corner of the Yellow River, the river that mixed-candle yellow lake formed in a clear line of the mainstream. From afar, like a milk float yellow ribbon on the lake, the lake is divided into two halves.
Niutoubei
Niutoubei is the source of the Yellow River. In order to develop the tourism of Maduo County, people there built a Niutoubei in September, 1988. The Niutoubei was built on the peak of Cuorigaze Mountain with an elevation of 4610 meters. The stele is made of copper with the length of 3 meters.
