Tongren Travel Guide
Location:Tongren County known to Tibetans as Rebkong in the region previously known as Amdo is the capital and second smallest administrative subdivision by area within Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, China.
History:
Tongren was a nomadic region in history.
The north part of Tongren was used for opening up wasteland in Han Dynasty; in Tang Zhong Zong Period, this place was given to Tibet as the bath room of Jincheng Princess.
Tongren County was found in 1929
Transportation:
Tongren Transportation is comparatively not developed. If you want to go there, you can go to Xining first, buy a ticket to Tongren, and get off at Wutun Shangzhuang Station. It is very close to Tongren.

There are several small hotels in Tongren County, including Huangnan Hotel, Youzheng Hotel, Xinxin Hotel, Lida Hotel, etc.
Dining:
Hui food dominates with dozens of noodle stands on every street.

Tongren County belongs to warm drought climate region, so it is a good summer resort for visitors from everywhere of the county.

Attractions:
Longwu Monastery
Longwu Monastery, located at the foot of Zhenxi Mountain, Longwu Town, Tongren County, is 186 kilometers away from Xining. Longwu Monastery was founded in 1301 and is the largest Geluk monastery in the Qingnan Area covering about 100 hectares.
The large monastery is situated at the southwestern end of Longwu town and has several dozen halls and thousands of monk cells. The grand hall has a number of spectacular statues of Shakyamuni and others including a 11 metre gilded statue of the founder, Tsongkapa on a stand 26 metres in circumference. It is the birthplace of Anduo Tibetan plays with performances being held at various times in each season.
The entrance fee of Longwu Monastery is RMB 55 per person.
Wutun Monastery
The main reason to visit Tongren is to see thangkas painted. These elaborate Buddhist works of art have been created here for centuries, and the town is still considered the best place in the Tibetan world to buy one.
Studios are concentrated in and around the monastery. There is an upper and lower monastery, of which the upper is far more impressive. They both charge 30RMB, and the monks at both will offer to take you to a studio.
There is no pressure to buy anything, and you can watch as long as you like.
Kanbula National Forest Park
Located in northwestern of Jainca County, 131 kilometers from Xining, the Kanbula National Forest Park covers an area of 39.17 square kilometers.
Featured by high mountain, deep valley, thick woods and quiet environment, National Forest Park is composed of mountains, deflated hills and small intermountain basins. The large mountains look like grand and vertical column, tower or castle; the small hills look like giant and strange animal of odd shapes. There are eighteen perilous peaks in the Kanbula Region.
Kanbula National Forest Park is an ideal place for sightseeing, worshiping, and summer resort. The weather amid the mountains can change very frequently.
