Zhaoqing Travel Guide
Location:Zhaoqing, a prefecture-level city of Guangdong, is located in the west Pearl River Delta on the north shores of the Xi River and is 110km from Guangzhou. Zhaoqing borders Guangxi in the northwest and Foshan in the southeast.
History:
Zhaoqing is one of the ancient cities in history, first named Gaoyao Country in the Han Dynasty, and then Sihui and Gaoyao in the Song Dynasty. In the Sui Dynasty, Zhaoqing became known as Duanzhou and served as an important administrative region and military base.
This 2200-year-old city is not only one of the most famous ancient cities in China, but also selected a national garden city as well as one of most attractive tourism cities in China.
Transportation:
There is not any airport in Zhaoqing, and the near airports are in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Zhaoqing is served by railways and highways. Direct train and bus services connect it to Guangzhou, Hong Kong and other cities in Guangdong. Major roadways include Interstates 321 and 324 and the Guang-Zhao and Guang-Wu Expressways. The Sanmao Railway also runs through Zhaoqing.
It is connected with Hong Kong via the KCRC Guangdong Through Train service from Zhaoqing Railway Station.

Special local products in Zhaoqing includes Duanxi ink stone, Zhaoqing lotus root, Zhaoqing bamboo mat, semiaquilegia adoxoides, Qixing common nightblooming cereus, the Huaiji Li bamboo, the Huaiji swiftlets nests, the Guangning bamboo wine, the Sihui tangerine, the Zhaoqing sandalwood fan, and the Zhaoqing glutinous rice dumpling.
Weather:
Zhaoqing is influenced by the subtropical climate. The Tropic of Cancer cuts through Zhaoqing. The annual mean temperature is 22.1℃and the average annual rainfall is 1620mm. Zhaoqing receives much sunlight and abundant rainfall and it is warm in its four seasons.
Attractions:
Dinghu Mountain
Dinghu Mountain is located in Dinghu District, 18km to the east of Zhaoqing City, in the Dayunwu Mountain Range, in Guangdong Province of southern China.
Dinghu Shan is a range of heavily forested mountains reaching up to 1,000 meters in height. The whole mountain range has been designated an area of special interest by the UN and there are at least 17,000 types of plants growing in this area. Known as the green gem on the Tropic of Cancer , the mountain's peaks rise above ancient towering trees, flying waterfalls, fresh air, various birds and colorful flowers.
Seven Star Crags
Seven Star Crags are located in the north of Zhaoqing beside Star Lake and is the most scenic place in Guangdong province.
The limestone crags are naturally arranged in the same formation as the 7 stars of the Big Dipper constellation. Legend has it that the pillars of limestone grew from stars that fell from the skies. There are lots of caves in this 8 km² area and some contain underground rivers that are large enough to navigate by boat. The Star Lake has been designated a national park.
Numerous sculptures of Buddhism and Taoizm idols are placed around the Star Lake. There is also a migratory birds reserve within reach by boat ride.
Chongxi Pagoda
Chongxi Pagoda, located at the bank of Dongxi River in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province in south China, was first built in the tenth year and completed in the 13th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty.
The Pagoda, employing a mixed structure of brick and stone, in an octagonal plane, is 57.5 meters high, with 9 exterior storeys and 17 interior storeys. On the granite pedestal there is a heavenly seat of 1.84 meters high, with 46.5 meters in perimeter.
Chongxi Pagoda is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in China. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country.
