My Trip to Aksu
October 13, 2005Today we are going to Aksu, 289km west of Kuqa. Aksu is the capital of Aksu Prefecture. The name Aksu literally means white water, and is used for both the oasis town and the Aksu River. It was an important stop on the Northern Silk Road that runs along the northern edge of the Taklamakan desert in the Tarim Basin between Kuqa and Kashgar.
The drive from Korla to Luntai, Luntai to Kuqa, and today Kuqa to Aksu, the grand Tianshan mountain is always on your right side, your friendly companion on the road. Tianshan Mountain is averagely 5000 above sea-level and 1500km long, dividing Xinjiang into Northern Xinjiang and Southern Xinjiang.
We reach Aksu at noon. After lunch, we drive to the Magical Wood Garden in Wensu. the Magical Wood Garden is located 40km northeast of Aksu.
In the garden you will be amazed at finding the old trees reaching high to the sky. Some of trees are oddly shaped. People say if you come back from the "The Magical Wood Garden in Wensu", you will lose your interest in seeing any more trees in future.
Tonight we stay at Aksu Hotel.
